Vitamin B1 (thiamine)

Vitamin B1

Thiamine (Vitamin B1) is an important vitamin that aids in the synthesis of glucose. While this vitamin is not a frequent deficit in an otherwise healthy diet and has limited advantages when taken by a healthy person, high blood glucose and/or alcoholism can dramatically increase the requirement for it.

How to Take

In cases when thiamine is thought to be insufficient, such as high blood sugar or excessive alcohol use, thiamine supplements are generally administered at dosages substantially over the RDA, such as 100-300mg. When taking thiamine at this level, time is unimportant; one dose in the morning or many doses throughout the day would suffice; thiamine does not need to be taken with meals to be absorbed.
